Notice of Race

 

1.            ORGANIZING AUTHORITY
 The Organizing Authority (OA) will be the Chicago Yacht Club, 400 East Monroe Street, Chicago, Illinois 60603 USA.

 

2.            VENUE
The venue will be Chicago, Illinois USA.  All sailing activity will be based at the Chicago Yacht Club – Belmont Station, 300 West Belmont, Chicago, Illinois 60657 USA.  Racing will be conducted on Lake Michigan.


3         EVENT GRADING

The event is an ISAF Grade 3 event.  This grading is subject to review by the ISAF Match Race Advisory

Board.  The event may be re-graded when there is clear reason to do so.

 

  4          PROVISIONAL PROGRAM

4.1         (a)  Race office opens September 21, 2009  at 01700 until 2000 hrs.
(b)  Registration and crew weighing will be September 21, 2009– 1700 until 2000 hrs unless extended by

                       OA.
(c)  Practice will be September 21, 2009, 1400 hrs until 1700 hrs unless extended by OA.
(d)  First briefing will be September 22, 2009, 0800 hrs.
(e)  First meeting with the umpires will be immediately following the first briefing.

(f)  Racing days will be September 22 and September 23, 2009.
(g)  Time of the first race each day will be 1000 hrs.
(h)  Daily press conference 30 minutes after the last race of the day.
(i ) 
No warning signal will be made after 1700 hours on September 23, 2009.


4.2        Unless excused by the OA, attendance at the following is mandatory:
              (a)  Initial briefing for skippers and crew.
              (b)  Daily briefing, for skippers and crew.
              (c)  Daily debriefing, for skippers and crew.
              (d)  Daily press conference, for skippers.
              (e)  Regatta dinner for skipper and crew.
              (f)   Prize giving for skippers and crew.


5          ELIGIBILITY

(a)   As many as eight (8) skippers may compete. Only skippers invited by the OA will be eligible to enter

       this event.  All skippers shall be members of their National Authority.

(b) The registered skipper shall helm the boat at all times while racing, except in an emergency.

(c)  To remain eligible a skipper shall confirm acceptance of invitation in writing (fax or e-mail shall be

        acceptable) to be received by date specified in the letter of invitation.
(d)  A non-refundable entry fee of $550.00 (US) shall accompany the acceptance of invitation for an entry to be

       valid.
(e)  All competitors shall meet the eligibility requirements of ISAF Regulation 19.2.1
(f)  All invited skippers shall obtain an ISAF Sailor ID by registering online at
www.sailing.org/isafsailor.

      Skippers shall inform the OA of their Sailor ID at registration.

 

6          ENTRIES

6.1        The skipper shall be entered on completion of registration, crew weighing, and the payment of the entry fee and damage deposit.  All payments shall be made in US$, by check or valid credit card.

6.2        Entry Fee
 A non-refundable entry fee of $550.00 (US) shall be paid as specified in NOR 5(d). 

6.3        Insurance.
             (a)     All skipper/owners are required to have adequate third party insurance.  A minimum of $300,000.00

(US) Water Liability Insurance is required.   Proof of insurance shall be provided at registration.


7         R ULES

(a)  The event will be governed by the rules as defined in the RRS.

(b)   Farr 40 Class Rules (F40CR) will apply with the exception of the following: F40CR 2, 25.1, 29, 31.1,

       36, and 37.

  (c)  If there is a conflict between the NOR and the Sailing Instructions, it will be resolved in favor

                    of the Sailing Instructions.  This changes RRS 63.7

 

8          BOATS AND SAILS
(a)  The event will be sailed in Farr 40 type sailboats. All competing sailboats should possess a

       valid one design certificate.
(b)  The following sails will be allowed for use during the regatta: 1 Mainsail, 3 Jibs (Light, Medium, and Heavy), and 2 Spinnakers (1S and 2S). Note all sails must conform to F40CR 25-29, except 25.1. 

 

9          CREW (INCLUDING SKIPPER)
(a)  The number of crew (including skipper) shall be nine (9) or ten(10), excluding persons placed

                    on board by the RC or the OA. All registered crew shall sail all races.
(b)  The maximum total crew weight, determined prior to racing shall be 787.5 kgs., when

                    wearing at least shorts and shirts.
(c)  When a registered skipper is unable to continue in the event the OA may authorize a

                    substitute.
(d)  When a registered crew member is unable to continue in the event the OA may authorize a

                    substitute, a temporary substitute or other adjustment.

10        EVENT FORMAT
(a)  The event will consist of the following stages:
          Stage 1: Double Round Robin
          Stage 2: Semi-Final/Final Round
(b)  The OA may change the format, terminate or eliminate any stage.

 

11        COURSE
(a)  The course will be windward/leeward with starboard roundings, finishing downwind.
(b)  The intended course area will be in the vicinity of the Chicago Yacht Club – Belmont Station.

 

12        ADVERTISING
(a)  As boats are supplied by the competitors, F40CR 36 will apply, except 36.1(b).
(b)  ISAF regulation 20.3.2 will apply and Category C advertising as supplied by the OA is to be

       displayed on the bow and the mainsail.
(c)  Boats shall not be permitted the right to protest for breaches of any rules regarding

      advertising (amends RRS 60.1).

 

13        PRIZES
(a)  Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third.

 

14        MEDIA, IMAGES, AND SOUND
(a)  The OA may require television personnel and equipment (or dummies) to be carried on board

                    while racing and may require competitors to be available for interviews.
(b)  By entering this event, the owner (or charterer) and crew members on competing yachts

                    grant at no cost the absolute right and permission to use their names, voices, images,

                    likenesses, and biographical material, as well as representations of their yacht:

     1. in any media (including television, print, and internet) to the OA, CYC, the Farr 40 Class

      Management, and affiliated companies.

 

15      COACH BOATS
(a)  Support and coach boats shall register with the OA.
(b)  Coach boats shall conspicuously display the provided identification flag when in the race area.

             (c)  The OA will not provide berths for coach boats.
             (d)  Any interference by a coach boat with the racing or event organization may result in a penalty applied

                   at the discretion of the Protest Committee to the appropriate skipper or team.

17        DISCLAIMER
            (a)  All those taking part in this event do so at their own risk.

            (b)  Specific attention is drawn to RRS Fundamental Rule 4, which states: “The responsibility for a boat’s

                   decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone”.
            (c)  The OA, its associates and appointees accept no responsibility for any loss, damage, injury, or

                   inconvenience incurred, howsoever caused.


18        INVITATIONS
            (a)  Entries will only be accepted from invited skippers.
            (b)  If you wish to be invited please register your request for an invitation as soon as possible with the OA by 

                   completing the attached form.
            (c)  Requests for an invitation will not be accepted after July 15, 2009.

Sailing for the Children
